Bow Making (Virtual Workshops)

Description

In this virtual workshop series we will meet once a week–on Saturdays at 12:00pm EST.– for an entire month and take you step by step through a bow build. Jeff will make a bow right along side of you and guide you through the whole process in the comfort of your home. Learn the following skills:

– Establishing the back of a bow(chasing a growth ring)
– Working around knots
– Following grain and laying out the bow
– Bow designs and which ones are the best
– Removing belly wood
– Floor tillering 
– Making a string
– Heat bending
– Bow Backings
– Final tillering
– Shooting the bow

We can make any style bow–both long and short–that you desire in this virtual workshop. Each student is encouraged to ask questions throughout the entire workshop and will have an extensive understanding of how a bow is made for a much lower cost than an in-person workshop.

How will this work? 
Each student will be provided with a Zoom link 10 minutes before the virtual workshop will begin. When clicking on the link that will grant access to the instructors camera so you can follow along, step by step. To keep this class cost effective, each student will purchase the bow stave and tools before the workshops begin–the instructor will email you a list of tools to purchase with links provided. The workshop will last 1 month and be held on Saturdays at 12:00pm EST. Cost is $53.00 per workshop session and will start in March 1st of 2025. Each student will receive an email asking what style of bow they want to make. Please check all emails after signing up.

Please note that when purchasing this virtual workshop, it will cover the entire month of March. Meaning it will cover all of your March workshops.

If you are wanting to make a sinew backed bow, we can accommodate. Please email us ahead of time letting us know. A sinew backed bow will require additional workshops.

Tools you will need:
Bow stave
Draw knife & Pocket Knife
Sandpaper 60 & 120 grit
B50 bow string
Heat gun or stock pot for boiling water
Shinto rasp
Small rat tail file
Cotton towel or leather pad
tillering stick
